David Hoffman was the Design Architect responsible for the renovation and restoration in 1989 to 1990 of the Tyrrell Library building. As the consultant architect based in Austin, Texas, he worked closely in conjunction with local architect, Milton H. Bell, to repair and restore the many structural defects of the building that had occurred over a protracted period of time of 63 years. His papers consist of slides and photographs that document the deteriorated condition found in the building at that time as well as ongoing restoration improvements done to bring the building back to its former state of excellent condition. The images in this collection chronicle the various steps that were taken to correct the structural defects that had plagued the building during a period of previous decline. Other images in this same collection depict the beautiful furnishings bought and installed in the interior portion of the library building, when the restoration was actually carried out.
