About this collection

This collection of postcards was compiled by a local collector by the name of Don Kelly.  These postcards consist of views and images of Beaumont and Southeast Texas for the period from the 1890s to the late 1980s.  The topics of these images include aerial views, agriculture, business and shopping, homes, hospitals, hotels, the Neches River, oil fields, parks and museums, public buildings, schools, and street scenes.  Also, some of these postcards document peculiar events such as a large whale, commonly referred to as Moby Dick, washing ashore near the Port Arthur (Texas) area in 1910.
