Julian R. Gonzales was born on July 3, 1919, in Bon Ami, Louisiana. The family later moved to Voth, Texas. In 1936 he became a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) laborer in construction projects at Tyrrell Park in Beaumont. During the Second World War he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations and after military service worked at Kirby Lumber Company in Voth and then at The Texas Company's (Texaco) Port Neches Asphalt Plant. He died on March 21, 2012, in Groves. This collection of photographs consists of three distinct series. One series documents his time and efforts at the CCC camp at Tyrrell Park. Another series is what appears to be the building and dedication of the Rainbow Bridge in the 1930's. And the last series of images is that of downtown Beaumont in the 1940's.
