The Gober-McNeill Family Papers document two early families from the Beaumont area. Jefferson Davis Gober was a physician and a pharmacist, who came to Beaumont in 1893 and owned and operated the Beaumont Pharmacy Drugstore for many years until his death in 1914. His daughter, Nettye Mae Gober, married a local physician by the name of James H. McNeill, they were long-time residents of Nederland. The Gober family were members of the First Baptist Church of Beaumont and were close acquaintances of the George W. Carroll family.
The family papers consist of photographs of the Gober, McNeill, and Carroll families. A photograph of the Beaumont Pharmacy is contained in this collection. Additional items include diplomas, medical licenses and certificates for Dr. J.D. Gober, photographs related to Anna C. Bell and her family (the sister of Nettye McNeill) and assorted items pertaining to the McNeills. The collection covers an approximate time period from the 1880s to the 1950s.
