Eleanor Woods Lavelle Papers

Eleanor Woods Lavelle was the daughter of Tom and Lottye Woods. Tom fought in World War I, and Eleanor collected and transcribed the approximately 76 letters he sent to Lottye during the war. The collection also contains family photograph albums and memorial books.

About the collections



The Tyrrell Historical Library is a unique library in that it collects and preserves the history of the greater Beaumont area, which includes the history of southeast Texas.  The library as a historical research repository was established in 1975.  Restoration of the library building began in 1989 and was completed in July of 1990.  The local history archives section of the library consists of personal papers, business, civic, fraternal, and city records.  The collections capture a wide array of material including family letters, journals, diaries, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, business reports, minutes and correspondence, along with thousands of photographs.
